RSVP Appreciation Event

RSVP-Appreciation-Event-Group

The Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) held its annual Volunteer Appreciation Event for its 180 volunteers. This is the first time the event was held in the evening as it has been a brunch in past years. This year, the dinner was held at the Carterville Community Center, with food catered by Cracker Barrell, cupcakes by Granny Puckett, and tea by McAlister’s. The K and I Drifters provided entertainment with their local musical flare.

About 100 people were in attendance, along with staff from Egyptian Area Agency on Aging. There were many gift baskets given away as prizes. Seven of the volunteers were honored for their nomination for the Senior Hall of Fame (HOF) award given by the State of Illinois for community service. The nominees are pictured left to right: Jeffrey Gee, Dixie Barnhart, Robin Fox, Imogene Bradshaw, Lynn McMahan, and Darrel Cutler. The Senior HOF award winners have not yet been announced.

RSVP places older adults who want to volunteer in areas to fulfill a need in the community. The placement is also consistent with the person’s strengths, interests, and preferences. Volunteers serve at senior sites assisting with meal delivery, crafts, and other activities. Volunteers also assist in schools, food pantries, and thrift shops. There are additional volunteer spots working in crafts, with HAM radios, and in helping with benefit programs. For more information call RSVP at 618.985.8311.
